The refractive error reported by you is, by all means, operable. Before a planned qualifying examination you should refrain from wearing contact lenses for one day, before the surgery – for at least a week. The contact lenses change the shape of the cornea; for the surgery the cornea should be rested and back in its natural shape. When it comes to antibiotics, the surgery can take place no sooner than one week after the end of antibiotic therapy. The necessity of a medical leave is dependent on the method of laser vision correction used during the surgery. If you qualify for SBK LASIK method, working in front of the computer (with frequent breaks) will be possible on the following day. However, if it is possible, it is highly advisable to give your eyes a rest for one week. Should you qualify for a more invasive method, a medical leave will probably be required for a period of one month. If the error is impossible to be fully corrected (it depends on the thickness of your cornea), you can wear contact lenses after the correction. Whether the error can be corrected completely is to be determined during the qualifying examination.
