I am 16 years old and right now my refractive errors are -7.5 and -8.5. It is a genetic disorder (my grandpa has very severe impairment of around -11 and my grandma has glaucoma, they are parents of my mother) I don’t know if that is of any importance. Last year I have had an examination in Warsaw (I think it was HRT) and it has shown that I am not in danger of developing glaucoma. My impairment progresses at the rate of 1 D per year. For the past 4 years I have been wearing Rigid Gas Permeable Contact Lenses which were supposed to help me but failed to do so (progression didn’t stop). To the point: My impairment will probably keep progressing at this rate until I turn 21 (that’s when the progression should stop) and my error will then be -13D. Does it disqualify me from the surgery?

Laser Vision Correction surgeries can treat myopia up to -14D, so if the rate of progression stays the same and there will be no other medical contraindications you will be able to undergo the surgery. Obviously, I will be able to qualify you for the surgery only after the qualifying examination which is crucial as it allows to rule out any contraindications such as keratoconus or too thin cornea.
