I’m 38 years old and I suffer from myopia; right eye -8D, left eye -9D, additionally a slight astigmatism. Ophthalmologist has diagnosed a vascular hypertrophy in my left eye probably caused by extensive use of contact lenses (over 20 years). Due to my line of work I cannot wear glasses all the time and correcting my vision to at least -1D (if total correction is impossible) would be a true rescue. It has been 17 years since I had undergone a scleroplasty in Szklarska Poręba 17 and since then my vision has worsened only slightly (maybe 1-2D). First of all, I would like to know if it’s possible to reduce my refractive error. Secondly, you claim to operate on errors up to -14D while other clinics seem to only reduce errors up to -10D – where does this difference come from?

Both your error and age qualify you for a correction. In order to determine whether such surgery is possible a series of tests has to be performed. Only with the results of the examination I will be able to tell whether it is possible to remove to error completely or only reduce. The crucial factor here is the thickness of your cornea. Divergences in values of corrected errors come from the specifications of the laser used during the surgery. The sole method of the correction is also a big factor, e.g. a flap created in SBK LASIK method is approximately 50% thinner then the flap created in traditional LASIK surgery, thus saving 90 micrometers of the substantia propia of the cornea – which widens the range of the correction.
