Diabetic retinopathy may be a contraindication to the laser vision correction procedure. First and foremost, during the preliminary qualifying examination, the extent of changes in the retina should be assessed and their possible development observed. However, if we are dealing with proliferative diabetic retinopathy, which is characterised by a more serious course and complications, this is an absolute contraindication to the laser vision correction surgery.
Moreover, the value of -13 dioptres is at the upper limit of the laser operating range. With such high myopia it may turn out that the cornea is too thin for the procedure to be performed safely.
