Immediately after the laser vision correction procedure, the patient is absolutely not allowed to drive any vehicles at least until the first follow-up appointment, which is scheduled either for the next day after the surgery (SBK LASIK) or a week later (TransPRK, LASEK). The treating ophthalmic surgeon should decide whether the patient can get behind the steering wheel after the follow-up examination. Depending on the conducted measurements and the assessment of the convalescence period, they may recommend a longer break from driving vehicles.

After the qualifying examination, driving a car is also forbidden until the dilating eye drops wear off. Distorted vision normally lasts for approximately 3-4 hours following the examination.
