Diagnostic tests

Specialist ophthalmological examination

The scope of the examination includes

  • Test of visual acuity at distance and near,

  • intraocular pressure measurement,
  • examination of the protective apparatus of the eye,
  • examination of the anterior segment of the eyeball,
  • fundus examination.
  • Duration of the test: 15-30 minutes (depending on whether drops were administered)

  • Cost of the examination: PLN 250

Worth knowing:

During the visit, the doctor may apply pupil-dilating drops to more accurately assess the fundus. Then no driving is allowed after the examination for about 3-4 hours. If the patient uses contact lenses, he or she should not wear them on the day of the examination.

Corneal topography (map)

Otherwise known as keratometry. It allows to determine the shape and curvature of the cornea of the eye and also its thickness. The test is painless, non-invasive and takes a few minutes.

They are carried out, among other things, during qualification for laser vision correction surgery, but also when the doctor suspects a corneal cone in the patient. Thanks to topography, it is possible to assess the condition of the cornea after an injury or after an ophthalmic procedure.

  • Duration of the study: 15 minutes

  • Cost of the examination: PLN 200

Worth knowing:

Do not wear contact lenses on the day of the examination. If topography is performed as a stand-alone examination, there is usually no need to apply pupil-dilating drops.

OCT – optical coherence tomography

The most precise and state-of-the-art method of imaging the organ of vision. Allows early diagnosis of degeneration and abnormalities in the anterior and posterior regions of the eye, among others:

  • Macular degeneration (AMD).
  • Glaucomatous changes
  • Abnormalities of the optic nerve
  • Thickness and number of nerve fibers in the vicinity of the optic disc
  • Retinal disorders
  • Duration of the test: 15-30 minutes (depending on whether drops were administered)

  • Cost of the examination: PLN 200

Worth knowing:

Contact lenses must not be used on the day of the examination. If the imaging study is not clear, pupil-dilating drops will need to be administered, and the patient will not be able to drive for about 3-4 hours.
