Laser vision correction + cross-linking – combined treatments
We are the only one in Pomerania to perform combined procedures for corneas that are abnormal – too thin, with ectasias or corneal cone.
SBK LASIK/FemtoLASIK laser vision correction + cross-linking
SBK LASIK/FemtoLASIK method, with the creation of a corneal flap. It works well for the correction of higher defects, but under the condition of adequate corneal thickness. If the patient presents with high myopia (above -6D), and at the same time the cornea of the eye is thinner than 500μm, it will prove impossible to safely perform vision correction in the standard way.
Supplementing the SBK LASIK/FemtoLASIK procedure with cross-linking may be helpful in such a case. We use this combination in the case of a healthy cornea, when the main need is to strengthen it. In this way, we prevent possible complications, including corneal ectasia of the eye.
TransPRK laser vision correction + cross-linking
TransPRK (StreamLight) is a superficial method in which the corneal epithelium of the eye is removed with a laser. It is often used for patients who are prone to trauma (e.g., athletes, uniformed service personnel) or who have trauma scars or corneas that are too thin. Lower vision defects are corrected using this method.
The combination of TransPRK and cross-linking procedures is a chance to positively qualify for vision correction in patients diagnosed with corneal cone of the eye or other ectasias, such as translucent marginal degeneration.
What is the course of the combined procedure?
In the combined procedure, before the cornea is prepared for the laser (defect correction), it is soaked in a riboflavin (vitamin B) solution, and then the laser vision correction procedure is carried out according to the procedure assigned to the specific method. At the very end, the cornea is exposed to a special UV lamp. The irradiation in this case takes only 5 minutes (CXL rapid).
What is the recovery process like after a combined procedure?
The combination of both procedures does not affect the recovery process after the procedure. All recommendations, strictures, drug treatment look exactly the same as for laser vision correction alone.
