Qualifying examinations
Each procedure is preceded by a thorough qualifying examination. In addition to interviewing the patient, the eye surgeon takes a series of measurements needed to determine the type and extent of the procedure.
Qualifying examination for laser vision correction
During the examination, the ophthalmic surgeon assesses the possibility of performing vision correction and selects the appropriate surgical method (FemtoLASIK, SBK LASIK, LASEK, TransPRK). The choice of method is primarily influenced by the parameters of the cornea, including its thickness, shape, and curvature. Individual characteristics of the patient are also taken into account, such as lifestyle, overall health, and the nature of their work.
- Duration of the examination: approximately 1 – 1.5 hours
- Cost of the examination: 400 PLN
After the examination, no driving is allowed for about 3-4 hours (drops are given to dilate the pupils). On the day of the appointment and during the specified time before, you must not wear contact lenses. The qualification remains valid for 3 months.
Qualifying examination for PTK surgery
The examination primarily involves assessing the severity of the condition with which the patient presents. If it is a corneal scar, the size, depth and effect on vision should be checked.
Duration of the examination: approximately 1 hour
Cost of the examination: 300 PLN
After the examination, no driving is allowed for about 3-4 hours (drops are given to dilate the pupils). On the day of the appointment and during the specified time before, you must not wear contact lenses. The qualification remains valid for 3 months.
Qualifying examination for corneal cross-linking procedure
When qualifying a patient for a cross-linking procedure, the surgeon takes into account parameters such as corneal shape or epithelial thickness and the severity of the condition/degeneration. The choice of method (Epi-On or Epi-Off) depends primarily on the latter.
Qualifying examination for upper eyelid blepharoplasty
During qualification for upper eyelid blepharoplasty the ophthalmic surgeon discusses with the patient the scope of the procedure, the projected outcome, and reviews the patient’s medical condition and medications taken.
Duration of the examination: approximately 15 minutes
Cost of the examination: 250 PLN
The test does not affect vision. The patient requires no special preparation. Information for ladies: you should come to the qualification without make-up or false eyelashes (they may disturb the proportions and symmetry of your face).
Qualifying examination for minor ophthalmic surgery
During the examination, the ophthalmic surgeon first assesses whether the eyeball/eyelid lesion should be treated with drug therapy or removed. If the patient is qualified for the procedure, he and the doctor discuss the scope of the procedure and the expected outcome.
Duration of the examination: approximately 15 minutes
Cost of the examination: 250 PLN
